Updates and Revelation of Big Idea 2

Image
As per my Big Ideas Investing Theory, many of you may not really know the company behind my Big Idea 2 . It is a company which I have held for more than 2 years and I had communicated significantly in my blog. Since 18th Sep 2018, Big Idea 2 has announced that it is in talks to sell one of its 76% owned subsidiary. This subsidiary is the company's main Cash Cow! As of yesterday, the company had announced that it had confirmed the full disposal of the subsidiary with a gain of over US$69 Million! Abstract from Announcement Abstract from Announcement This is probably the best news I had heard for my investing journey since 2018! Anyway, without further ado, it is time to reveal the company... the company is Chuan Hup Holdings Ltd! With the help from the calculation method as per my previous post on the company, the indicative book value of the company seem to be in the range of between S$0.500 to S$0.545. In Short With the book value in mind, my strategy t...

The Value Of Chuan Hup Holdings Ltd

Image
I have been looking for a counter to reduce my almost 30% of cash holding. Thus, an interesting counter stands out from the list of companies in my portfolio. That is Chuan Hup Holdings Ltd (CH) . Chuan Hup Holding Logo Over the last few months, CH share price has been hovering around and above 30 cents. I have been thinking of adding more of CH into my portfolio and have been rather reluctant because my average share price was much lower. However, a meet up with Simple Investor  reminded me about Warren Buffett’s quote - “Price is what you pay, but Value is what you get.” Therefore, I decided to look at the valuation of CH before deciding further. In my view, CH should be consider from a book value perspective rather than earnings or DCF perspective. This is because it act more like an investment firm due to the associate and subsidiary it has invested in. Hence, I settled on a “Sum of All Parts” calculation for CH. From CH's 2017 annual report, it owns the fo...

The 3rd Happy Event This Month

Other than the happy events that Ellipsiz Ltd announced special dividend and it became a multibagger for me, as well as the successful launch of 1st Value/Growth Investing Workshop and Fundamental Scorecard website, there was another happy event this month. Chuan Hup Holdings Ltd (CH) announced its full year results on Monday.  As predicted, it gave out special dividend - 1 cent ordinary and 2 cents special!   That's more than 10% dividend yield for anyone that bought it recently. For me, I have been loading up on this counter since start of August this year. I buy until it became the top 3 of my holdings (despite the fact that I have 20+ counters currently and many are blue chips) . My small saving in SRS account also contains solely CH. Glad it repaid my faith. Other than my prediction of the special dividend, the other reasons I continued to purchase the counter was because the Ultimate Scorecard say so! As Simple Investor SG and I were buil...

A Review Of The Recent Results Of The Small/Mid Caps In My Portfolio

Updated on 20 May 2017: I should have updated this earlier. I have actually sold off all of BBR Holdings Ltd on 16 May 2017. The main reason is due to my rebalancing of my portfolio. This is one of the counters that I had already made about 20% gain, so it seems to be good to liquidate at that point in time. The selling has nothing to do with the financials or fundamentals of the company.  Before I start, I like to apologize for the lack of post and updates on my TUB Investing Facebook Page and InvestingNote . This was because of my new role at work (I think I stated this before) and I was overseas recently. In addition, I will be on reservist soon. So the lack of updates will most probably continue. As per the title of this post, many of my small and mid caps has just released their most recent quarterly results (6 of them were released on 12 May!).  However, due to the lack of time, rather than a long lengthy analysis on each counter, I will be reviewing and commenti...

"Something is brewing for this Company..."

Image
There is something happening in this company. The company is Chuan Hup Holding Ltd and the last post I have written about it was a long time ago. Currently I am making paper losses currently. The reason I continue to hold on to it is because: The conservative management - The management has never tried to grow aggressively despite having so much cash, but they are also not worried to take action when required to do so. This is shown in their decision to invest in Australia, way before other companies that just started to make inroads into the country. Another action is the company's decision in rejecting Falcon Energy Group Ltd initial general offer for CH Offshore Ltd, which led to a higher offer from Falcon Energy Group Ltd. No borrowings - After holding this company for some years, I realise it does not leverage up for growth. We know that eventually Fed will increase their interest rate. Thus, a company without borrowings seems to be on the "greener grass...

How Did These Triple S Scorecard Stocks Fare After 1 Year?

Sorry for the prolong in-activeness of this blog as I was preparing my overseas trip and then I went overseas. Anyway after being back only for a few days, I already have a lot of topics on my mind, So here is the first topic... which relates back to my previous post - about enhancing my Triple S Scorecard. After posting on the topic, people were asking me "How did the Triple S Scorecard stocks performed for the past 1 year?" Thus, I decided to do a short summary on the stocks in my portfolio that pass the Triple S Scorecard previously and how it performed. Do note that not all the stocks in my portfolio are based on Triple S Scorecard criteria - Some are blue chips, some are dividend based stocks, while others could be deep-value investing stocks. Here are the 7 stocks in my portfolio that pass the Triple S Scorecard: *Do note that these stocks may not be bought exactly 1 year ago, but these stocks are bought because it passed the Triple S Scorecard since the sc...

Chuan Hup Holding Ltd - An Overdue Update

Image
It has been a long long time since I did any update on Chuan Hup Holding Ltd. The last post was dated 13 September 2015. I will not be long winded and talk about Chuan Hup Holding Ltd (Please read through the previous post) . Based on the Triple S Scorecard: Although I suffered paper losses, but... 1. Still very rich - The Group still has $93.442 Million in cash. Note that although most of the cash is still with PCI Ltd, but Chuan Hup Holding Ltd can request for high dividend from PCI Ltd. The Group also has investment securities, which can be easily converted to cash. During this downturn, the Group can also utilized the cash and purchase many undervalue assets. 2. Pass Triple S Scorecard - The Group still pass the Triple S Scorecard with flying colours. Based on the current lower price, it fares even better. 3. Dividend of 1 cent - We should still expect a fixed dividend of at least 1 cents from the Group. Although this is just 3.7% of dividend yield, bu...

Target Price During This Crazy Time

When Japan announced that they are adopting negative interest rate , I decided that a new era has arrived. Imagine lending $100k to expand your business, and after 5 years, you only need to return $100k or maybe slight higher. Cost of borrowing will have really gone down for the corporates and even the savers. Individuals, who are savers, will have to find alternatives to get more return. Stock Market around the world has been very volatile - I really don't know what will happen tomorrow. Instead of doing an analysis individually, I rush through the weekend to finish this - Analyse on the stocks I am interested to invest in and find the target price I should enter for that stock. Do note that minimum input was done and business analysis was put aside. The review was just done on the financials.  And also, a mindset was required for this analysis - "Every stock will have an entry price. It is just a matter of how far it is or how near it is from its current price."...

Triple S Scorecard (Previously named as V Scorecard)

Image
Warning: This will be an extremely long post. Updated: The Scorecard has been rename from "V Scorecard" to "Triple S Scorecard" After 1 month of reading plus 2 weeks of using my "after office hours free time", I managed to create my new value scorecard - which I renamed as "V Scorecard" (sounds more atas right?). This idea came about because I felt my previous scorecard is not complete and focused more on earnings than balance sheet (which is not really in line with value investing). I wanted to do some coaching as well, so I felt a more informative scorecard is required (not that I think I am super good. My portfolio is down about 5% in general this year.). I also realized the previous scorecard is also quite tedious on retrieving information and lazy people will be turned off by it. Thus, a more informative scorecard with minimal input is sought after. Information which I gather from, for the V scorecard, was stated in m...

The Holy Grail to Unlocking Value in Singapore Stocks

Image
Note 1: This does not only applies for Value Stocks, but also for every other stock in the SGX. Note 2: Although this is written from a value investor perspective but it is still applicable even if you are a trader. As a value investor, capital appreciation is always on my mind - What is the "Holy Grail" that will cause a stock price to rise?  When will a stock unlocks its value, especially in the Singapore Stock Market? Some people may disagree with me, but I think value investing is still not popular in Singapore.  Unlike the US Stock Market, people do not recognize these value stock as quickly. In addition, US Stock are more popular/well-known as they are advertised/marketed/broadcast more often. Just imagine - Singapore only has Channel News Asia.  USA has BBC, CNN, CNBC, ABC, Fox and CBS (Noted that some of them may not be a US channel but I just want to emphasize that how much a US stock will be broadcast to the public). I cannot imagine the...

Chuan Hup Holding Ltd

I am back again - Went on an overseas trip lately. When I am back, the market became red. And then green. And then red. You can never catch the bottom in this volatility. Thus, as usual, my advice is to invest in good quality company with a long term view. Therefore, I shall talk about one of the quality company in my portfolio (which I am deeply vested in) - Chuan Hup Holding Ltd. Profile In Short Chuan Hup Holding Ltd (CHH) is an investment company which has a major stake in PCI Ltd (Listed in SGX). It also has some shareholding in Finbar Group Ltd - an Australia property development company listed in ASX. CHH collaborated with Finbar Group Ltd and is deeply involved in various Australia Property Developments. Previously, CHH also had some shareholding in CH Offshore Ltd but it has since been sold off to Falcon Energy in early 2015. The Value Stock Scorecard Price: $0.320 (as at 13 Sep 2015) Net Current Asset Per Share: $0.313 (-5%) % Cash of Pric...
