Review of the Counters I Wrote in 2017

As a blogger, I like to write about my analysis to keep track of what I thought of the counter previously and if the situation have change now. Therefore, I decided to do a general review on all the counters that I wrote in 2017 for this post. I believe I will be able to pick up some factors that I could improve on next year so that I can eventually make more gains! *Do note that I will only be doing a review on counters I wrote a full post on. Those that had more than 1 counters in the post will not be tagged in this review. *Click on the date to refer back to the old posts. Counter 1: Bukit Sembawang Estates Ltd ( 23 Jan 2017 ) This first article in 2017 is a counter I have been vested since 2016. Bukit Sembawang Estates Ltd is a major property giant with a huge land bank. While all the property firms are busy participating in the current en-bloc frenzy, the company do not need to do anything due to its huge land bank. Decisions In 2018 I really like Bukit S...

This Counter Flew Up Into The Sky!

Sometimes Mr Market screw you up, sometimes Mr Market give you surprises! Ocean Sky International Ltd   (Ocean Sky) was a counter I bought on 31 Jan 2017. It is a micro-penny counter that went under a structure change at the end of last year. They change their business from manufacturing clothing to becoming a construction company. I was a bit disappointed when Ocean Sky released its full year results for 2016 on 1st March 2017. Its net profit was boosted by “other income” – recognition of fair value gain on investment property in Cambodia, and its balance sheet has significant “goodwill”. In my opinion, these are just “air” fundamentally. Nevertheless, I kept holding on to it because I believe the company will need to drive the share price up with business activities. Furthermore, this counter is rather illiquid. Share price move up and down significantly, but only due to small volume. However, I realized the company started to announce the purchase of properties to devel...

The Share Buyback Counter

In my own opinion, having written a 3-part series on the construction industry (Part 1 , 2 and 3 ) and invested in many construction and property counters, I believe my understanding of the construction and property industry is at least above average. Thus, this time round I will be writing about Tiong Seng Holding Limited (Tiong Seng) , which I had been vested since the start of the year at a very low price of only $0.230. It has since risen till the current price of $0.320. A whopping 36%  paper gain! Profile In Short (Taken from 2016 Annual Report) Riding on over 58 years of strong track record, Tiong Seng is a homegrown leading construction and civil engineering company in Singapore and a niche real estate developer in China. Accorded the highest A1 grading from the Building Construction Authority (“BCA”) for both general building and civil engineering projects, the company is qualified to undertake public sector construction projects with unlimited contr...

A Review Of The Recent Results Of The Small/Mid Caps In My Portfolio

Updated on 20 May 2017: I should have updated this earlier. I have actually sold off all of BBR Holdings Ltd on 16 May 2017. The main reason is due to my rebalancing of my portfolio. This is one of the counters that I had already made about 20% gain, so it seems to be good to liquidate at that point in time. The selling has nothing to do with the financials or fundamentals of the company.  Before I start, I like to apologize for the lack of post and updates on my TUB Investing Facebook Page and InvestingNote . This was because of my new role at work (I think I stated this before) and I was overseas recently. In addition, I will be on reservist soon. So the lack of updates will most probably continue. As per the title of this post, many of my small and mid caps has just released their most recent quarterly results (6 of them were released on 12 May!).  However, due to the lack of time, rather than a long lengthy analysis on each counter, I will be reviewing and commenti...

My quirky investment methods has bought me another interesting counter. By exploring different ways of screening for counters, I chanced upon Ocean Sky International Ltd. What caught my attention was the business activities - Ocean Sky International Ltd - stated on the SGX Website! "Ocean Sky International Limited, an investment holding company, through its 100% interest in Ang Tong Seng Brothers Enterprises Pte. Ltd., provides building and civil engineering contracting services primarily in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The company offers engineering services, such as earthwork, roadwork, drainage work, basement work, and structural works comprising demolition and underground infrastructure works, as well as other general building works. It also invests in, develops, and manages properties. The company was incorporated in 1988 and is headquartered in Singapore." I remember Ocean Sky International Ltd (OSI) was in the apparel business. So why is it in the construct...
